Hi Ho and welcome to Kermit
Inspiration, a site dedicated to ..well…. Kermit!
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| People know me as
a simple, green, stuffed frog that’s sole purpose is to be entertaining to children. I do love children very much, and to see them smile is like sunshine reflecting off a lily pad. And for a frog, that is a wonderful sight.
|
|
|
|
|
| However, as Kermit, I do also have a very spiritual side. I believe in peace,
love, sharing, caring, and the understanding of life and ones self. The rainbow connection song (my personal favorite) is a good example of what I feel, and believe we all feel at
times.
|
|
|
|
|
|
You will find games to entertain, pictures of me and my friends, postings of poems and inspirational stories (please feel free to add yours), and other things that will appeal to the Kermit in all of us. Oh, and the best bit is that it's all free, like when you find free stuff.
It'll make your friends green with envy, although being green is pretty cool, don't you think?
|
|
|
|
|
|
So have fun as you explore the site, and perhaps you will find some inspiration along the way. And perhaps someday we’ll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers the dreamers and me.

Ever
wonder where Kermit got his name from?
|
|
|
|

Kermit
the Frog has his own unique story.
Some fifty years ago, when the creator of the Muppets, Jim Henson,
was a kid at Leland Elementary School, he used to play and roam around
Mississippi’s Deer Creek with his friend, and together they used to catch and
listen to the bullfrogs along his journey. His friend’s name?
Kermit Scott.

Kermit
Scott later became a professor of philosophy at Purdue and when asked
if he liked to be immortalized as a frog, Scott replied “I’m flattered.
My grandchildren certainly like it a lot.
They get a big kick out of it…. I can think of lot worse things I
could be associated with.”
|
|
|
|
|
|
We
certainly think there is nothing better than being associated with the
famous frog that sings songs that make us think not just about life…but
about rainbows…and of the greatness of ‘bein green...

Kermit and his Creator

Who is the creator behind the magic of the Muppets? Jim Henson was an
artistic genius. He invented "Muppets" by mixing marionettes and puppets.
The Muppeteers were below the camera so they could move more freely. Jim
Henson was a great man to children and parents alike.
Jim was a caring man,
he once stated, "I believe in taking a positive attitude toward the world,
toward people, toward my work. I think I'm here for a purpose. I think it's
very likely that we all are, but I'm only sure about myself. I try to tune
myself in to whatever it is that I'm supposed to be, and I try to think to
myself as a part of all of us -- all

mankind and all life. I find it's not
easy to keep these lofty thoughts in mind as the day goes by, but it
certainly helps me a great deal to start out this way." Jim Henson
influenced the world by making a new market for television shows and
merchandise, taught children simple concepts, and was a good example to
others.

The magic started in 1956. Jim Henson created Kermit out of his mother’s
old green coat, using ping-pong balls for eyes. He started with a 5-minute
skit, twice a day, called "Sam and Friends". Henson’s next work was in 1963
when Rowlf the Dog aired on the Jimmy Dean Show. Rowlf acted for three years
on this show. He also made a few dog food commercials. (Straub)
In 1969 the key thing in Jim Henson’s career happened, Sesame Street.
Kermit, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, and humanoid Ernie were regulars on Sesame
Street. This program taught children their colors, shapes, numbers, letters
and concepts such as "up" and "down." 68% of all households with children
under six-years-old were tuning into this program. Children were very
entertained by these and creatures, and they taught children enough to give
them a head start on these concepts. Parents also enjoyed this show and
enjoyed knowing that their children were learning these concepts. (Straub)
In 1976 The Muppet Show began. Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo the Great,
Scooter, and Rizzo the Rat, were performed by various people and of course
Kermit the Frog was performed by Jim Henson. This television show lead to
the making of five feature films: The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper,
The Muppets Take Manhattan, The Muppet Christmas Carol, and Muppet Treasure
Island. (Straub)
Other films that Jim Henson worked with were the Dark Crystal and Labyrinth
and assisted with animatronics for difficult puppet creations and helped
construct the Jim Henson Creature shop, which produce elaborate mechanical
characters to help George Lucus with the creatures he developed on the Star
Wars films. Henson also had other television shows including, Fraggle Rock,
Muppet Babies, and Jim Henson’s Greek Myths. ("Jim Henson" raven.ubault.edu)
The many guests that appeared on the Muppet productions loved the Muppets
too. Mel Brooks appeared on the Muppet Movie. Brooks stated, "The basic
message of The Muppet Show was that the meek shall inherit the earth." The
Muppets also admired their wonderful guests. Ethel Merman was on The Muppet
Show in the first season; Kermit noted about her, "When she sings, I get
people in my throat."
The lovable Kermit was a big part of Jim’s life. He was an alter ego to
Henson and one of the first of his creations. Kermit was a little snarkier
than Henson though; he said things Henson held himself from saying. Kermit
also appeared on the Tonight show and sang "I’ve Grown Accustomed to Your
Face" to a purple monster that ate his own face then tried eating Kermit.
This loveable frog also sang many other songs including, "The Rainbow
Connection," "It Ain’t Easy Being Green," "If I Were", and the famous song,
"Kokomo." Not only were the Muppets loved as a whole, but also Kermit was an
icon for all Muppets and is a favorite to many, especially Jim.
Jim’s death was very tragic in May 1990, but for his funeral Jim’s Family
had a "celebration of life." Mourners waved brightly colored butterflies
instead of being so sad. Frank Oz, a close friend and fellow muppetteer to
Jim, said, "Sure, Jim the creator was a genius. Yet I see him foremost as an
appreciator. He appreciated the Muppet family and his own family. He
appreciated flying kites with children. He appreciated beauty, and he
appreciated fun." Jim made appreciators of the rest of the world. Everyone
appreciates Jim’s brilliance, his joy of life, and what he is know for, the
joy he brought to millions of people around the country and around the
world. Jim Henson was a dedicated worker, a brilliant man, and helped
thousands directly and indirectly.
